Big Shoes: Magento 2 → Shopify Plus
Big Shoes moved a large footwear catalog from Magento 2 Community to Shopify Plus. Every order came across, each color of a shoe got its own tile on collection pages, and monthly revenue is up about 67% since launch.
IN SHORT
- Big Shoes, a footwear retailer, moved from Magento 2 Community to Shopify Plus with Lucent Commerce.
- Every order was migrated, including those tied to special product types that stopped the first attempts.
- Each color of a shoe appears on collection pages as its own tile, while the catalog keeps one product per shoe.
- Monthly revenue grew about 67% after the move, and the client also saw conversion improve.
The challenge
Big Shoes sold a large footwear catalog on Magento 2 Community Edition and wanted to move to Shopify Plus without changing how the business ran. Their order process, their shipping partners and the way each shoe is shown to shoppers all had to carry over.
Three things made it harder than a standard replatform. First, they sell shoes in many colors, and shoppers expect to see every color on a collection page as if it were its own product, even though it is one product with variants. Second, each color has its own set of images and infographics, and a shopper looking at the red pair should never see photos of the blue one. Third, some orders belonged to special kinds of products, and those were the ones that failed in early migration runs.

How we approached it
- 01
Understand the vision and the current process
We started with discovery sessions with the client to understand what they wanted from the new store and how their business works today, so the same process would carry over to Shopify rather than being replaced by a template.
- 02
Learn how the products and the interface behave
We studied how their products are structured, how a shopper moves through the catalog and how the interface supports it. That decided what had to be rebuilt and what Shopify already did well.
- 03
Align with third-party vendors
We met the third-party stakeholders the store depends on, such as shipping and fulfillment partners, to agree how each integration would work, including ShipBob.
- 04
Build the collection experience
We built the collection pages so every color appears as an individual tile. Variant-level content and infographics were set up so each color shows only its own images.
- 05
Migrate every order
Early migration runs left some orders behind because of special product types. We worked through each type until every order had moved, so no customer lost their history.
- 06
Connect shipping and launch
We connected the store to its shipping partners so fulfillment ran smoothly from the first order on Shopify, then launched on Shopify Plus.
One shoe, every color, on the collection page
Big Shoes wanted shoppers to see all of a shoe's colors while browsing a collection, each as its own tile, without turning each color into a separate product. A shoe like the Saucony Guide 19 comes in 13 colorways, and a shopper comparing them wants to see them side by side.
We built it so the catalog stays clean, with one product per shoe and its colors as variants, while the collection page shows a tile per color. Each tile carries the images and content for that color only, which is why variant-level content and infographics were part of the migration, not an afterthought.
The result
The migration was a clear success for the client. Monthly revenue rose by about 67% once the store was live on Shopify Plus, and the client reported that conversion improved as well.
The client's own account is that fulfillment became much smoother after the move, which they credit to the shipping integrations. Every order from Magento made it across, so customers kept their history.
