A Shopify theme already has a token layer: theme settings, color scheme groups and font settings. The work is deciding which tokens the merchant owns, not building a pipeline.
Shopify tells you which orders look risky. The part nobody decides in advance is which ones you are willing to lose.
Nested loops, metafields inside iterations, and filters recomputed 200 times. The patterns that make a theme slow on the server, and why that is usually not your worst problem.
Peak monitoring is not analytics with a faster refresh. It is four signals, a written threshold under each one, and a named person whose job is to say something out loud.
The instinct is to clone: a second store, or a second product record per country. Shopify separates availability, price and language from the product itself so you do not have to.
Points schemes mostly reward people who were coming back anyway. The things that genuinely drive repeat purchase are duller and harder to install.
A tier is a discount you have promised in advance to the people most likely to buy anyway. Work out what it costs before you name it after a metal.
The hard part is not taking the order. It is making one number (how long this will take) true on the product page, in checkout, in the confirmation email and on the phone.
Shopify gives you the organization layer: users, billing, reporting. Everything that actually drifts between stores is yours to govern, and drift is what makes the fifth store cost more than the first four.
Not because the work takes six months. Because anything structural needs a full trading cycle in production to prove, and there is no staging environment that generates your November.
