B2B in review: what changed for wholesale on Shopify
B2B stopped being a Plus feature in April. Most of what else changed is plumbing, and a few important things have not moved at all.
The biggest change for wholesale on Shopify was who can use it. On 2 April 2026 Shopify made company profiles, volume pricing, payment terms and up to three B2B catalogs available on Basic, Grow and Advanced at no extra cost. Plus keeps unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, and partial payments and deposits. Everything else this year was payments, order review and integration plumbing, mostly aimed at Plus stores. Punchout and recurring wholesale orders did not change.
IN SHORT
- On 2 April 2026 Shopify made company profiles, volume pricing, payment terms and up to three active B2B catalogs available on Basic, Grow and Advanced at no extra cost.
- Plus keeps unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, and partial payments and deposits.
- The test for whether the three-catalog ceiling matters is to count the buyers who get a price nobody else gets.
- The rest of the year was payments and orders plumbing (ACH, dynamic terms, saved-card charging, order review) plus EDI and ERP connectors, and several of those are marked Plus-only on Shopify’s Editions pages.
- All Horizon themes now support volume pricing, quantity rules and quick order lists, so a first wholesale order form no longer needs custom code.
- No announcement we read covered punchout or scheduled recurring wholesale orders, and both still need their own plan.
The change that mattered: B2B left the Plus tier
On 2 April 2026 Shopify announced that the foundation of its B2B tooling is available on Basic, Grow and Advanced as well as Plus, at no additional cost. The changelog entry lists what is included: company profiles, up to three active B2B catalogs assigned through Markets, payment terms, volume pricing, ACH payments (US only) and vaulted credit cards. The announcement adds quantity rules to that list.
The Spring ’26 Edition repeated the point in one line: company profiles, volume pricing and up to three B2B catalogs, from the admin, at no extra cost.
Before April, a non-Plus store selling wholesale often leaned on an app, a second store or a spreadsheet. That is the line that moved. A merchant who parked a wholesale project because it sounded like a Plus upgrade should reopen it.
Shopify’s announcement also quotes uplift figures for merchants who adopt B2B. They are Shopify’s own numbers and we cannot verify them, so we have left them out.
What Plus kept, and where the ceiling bites
Shopify lists unlimited catalogs for customer-specific pricing, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, and partial payments and deposits as the features Plus still holds back.
Read that against the three-catalog limit. Three catalogs, assigned through Markets, cover tiered pricing: a distributor tier, a retailer tier, a trade tier. They do not cover a price negotiated for one buyer, because that needs a catalog assigned straight to that company.
So the test is short. Count the buyers who have a price nobody else gets. If it is a handful, maintaining those exceptions by hand may cost less than the plan change. If the number grows every month, that is your case for upgrading. Our piece on price lists, quotes and net terms covers how to model both.
The payments and orders plumbing
The rest of the year’s B2B changes are mostly about getting paid on terms without someone chasing invoices. Useful, and most relevant once you already run net terms.
- ACH bank payments. Buyers in the US can pay from a bank account, and admins can charge saved accounts. The Winter ’26 Edition described this as Plus-only, while the April changelog lists ACH (US only) among the non-Plus features. Check your own plan before promising it to a buyer.
- Dynamic payment terms and deposits. Apps built on Shopify Functions can set terms by order size: pay now for small orders, Net 30 for mid-size ones, Net 60 with a deposit for large ones. The Editions page marks this Plus-only.
- Order review rules. Rules built on Functions flag orders for review by value or product. Also marked Plus-only.
- Store credit for company locations, issued from a location profile or during a refund, and pickup in store as a delivery option for B2B buyers at checkout.
- Automated vaulted payments. A Flow action from the Spring ’26 Edition charges a saved payment method automatically, triggered by a fulfillment or invoice event.
The rest of the year’s B2B changes are mostly about getting paid on terms without someone chasing invoices.
Integration got less bespoke
Two things shortened the custom-work list. Shopify’s prebuilt ERP connectors grew, with Fulfill named in the Winter ’26 Edition, and the Summer ’25 Edition updated the NetSuite connector to sync companies, orders, PO numbers and payment terms, a Plus feature. And purchase orders from the EDI providers SPS Commerce and Crstl can now arrive as draft orders.
If your buyers send purchase orders by EDI, that removes a middleware project. If your ERP is not on the connector list, it does not. You still have to build or buy the sync, and the earlier questions still apply: which system owns the catalog, and which owns the price.
The storefront caught up
The Winter ’26 Edition says all Horizon themes now support built-in volume pricing, quantity rules and quick order lists. Catalogs also gained compare-at prices in the admin, with no CSV import or API integration needed.
That means the first version of a wholesale order form no longer needs custom code. It applies to Horizon themes only, so on an older theme check what it supports before assuming any of this carries over.
What did not change
No announcement we read covered punchout, the protocol large buyers use to shop from inside their own procurement system, or recurring wholesale orders on a schedule. Both still need a plan.
Punchout is usually an integration project (we wrote about it in B2B punchout and the buyers who never see your storefront). A buyer who wants the same order every month is a subscription-billing question, and that is where Shopify subscriptions and Recharge work starts.
What we would tell someone asking today
If you sell wholesale through a workaround and you are not on Plus, move it onto native companies and catalogs first and see how far three catalogs and volume pricing take you. Do that before paying for anything else.
Upgrade to Plus when you can name the specific thing you are missing: a price negotiated per buyer, partial payments or deposits, terms that vary by order size, or review rules on incoming orders. If you cannot name one, the plan is not your constraint.
And re-read this in a quarter. Plan eligibility for individual features moved several times in a year, and Shopify’s own Editions page and changelog already disagree about ACH.
Questions this raises
Is Shopify B2B available on Basic, Grow and Advanced plans?
Yes, in part. On 2 April 2026 Shopify made company profiles, volume pricing, payment terms, vaulted credit cards and up to three active B2B catalogs available on Basic, Grow and Advanced at no extra cost. Plus keeps the rest.
How many B2B catalogs do non-Plus plans get?
Up to three active catalogs, assigned through Markets. Plus offers unlimited catalogs and lets you assign them directly to companies and locations, which is what account-by-account pricing needs.
What is still Plus-only in Shopify B2B?
Shopify lists unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, and partial payments and deposits. Its Editions pages also mark dynamic payment terms and deposits, and order review rules, as Plus-only. Check the help center for current eligibility before you plan around a feature.
Can Shopify B2B customers pay by ACH?
In the US, yes. Shopify’s changelog lists ACH payments (US only) among the features available on non-Plus plans, although the Winter ’26 Edition page described it as Plus-only. Confirm your plan in the admin.
Do Horizon themes support wholesale ordering?
Yes. Shopify says all Horizon themes support built-in volume pricing, quantity rules and quick order lists, which covers a first version of a wholesale order form without custom code. Other themes may not.
Does Shopify B2B support punchout or recurring wholesale orders?
No announcement from the past year covered either. Punchout generally needs an integration built around Shopify, and scheduled repeat orders are a subscription-billing question. Both still need their own plan.
